Peanut Butter and Jelly Family Services has a division called “Heeling Hearts”. Heeling Hearts is a program for incarcerated women in New Mexico’s Women’s Correctional Facility. In this program, the women rehabilitate and find homes for shelter dogs who would otherwise be euthanized. This program nurtures and heals the women of our community who are currently serving time in prison. It builds bridges between the corrections population and the community by allowing the women an opportunity to give back in a very meaningful and beneficial way. At Aztec Animal Clinic, we have found a way to contribute to this program by providing surgical services to the rescued dogs at no cost. We have spayed and neutered numerous dogs for Heeling Hearts. Recently, two of our doctors donated their time to perform a front leg amputation on a little dog from the program. Pi, as she is now named, recovered well and now lives the life of luxury. She is doing great with just three legs and goes on daily walks and weekend hikes with her new mom, Dr. McGuire. Her days are spent snoozing in the doctors’ office here at Aztec. Other Featured Pets
