popples, featured pet

Popples was adopted from an Albuquerque shelter by John and Lynn, long-time clients of Aztec, in June 2007. After having several elderly dogs, John and Lynn requested that they be shown mostly dogs that were likely to be difficult to place. Popples definitely fit the bill! At his first visit, he was found to have severe dental disease, dramatic arthritis, multiple skin masses, was moderately anemic and was in congestive heart failure. After going over his problem list, his new owners took a deep breath and told us to do whatever was needed to help him be more comfortable. In spite of his guarded outlook, we jumped in and started a medical workup for his problems.

Eighteen months later, Popples is on multiple medications for his heart, hypothyroidism and arthritis. In spite of his challenges, he is happy and active, trying to keep up with his two younger dog friends. He has loved being part of a loving and caring family and could not have landed in a better place. We are all grateful to clients like these for giving an old man a chance to be healthy and comfortable in his "sunset" years.
